The standard pickleball court layout consists of several key zones that are essential for gameplay. A typical court with just the playing area is 20 feet by 44 feet but if you have the room, we recommend painting an outer area for a total area of 30 feet x 60 feet. These dimensions include the 2” lines!
- Court Dimensions: The primary playing area measures 20 feet by 44 feet, suitable for both singles and doubles matches. However, to allow adequate room for players to move around, a larger playing surface of 30 feet by 60 feet is recommended. This provides about 5 feet of additional space on each side and 8 feet beyond the baselines.
- Key Zones:
- Non-Volley Zone: Often called the “kitchen,” this 7-foot area on either side of the net restricts volley play, ensuring the game’s unique strategic aspects.
- Serving Areas: The court is divided into a left and right service area by a centerline, which helps define where serves should land.
- Diagonal Distance: The distance across the court from one baseline corner to the opposite net corner is approximately 48 feet, 4 inches. This diagonal measurement is important when you are laying out a court…find your corners first!
