How much space is needed for a pickleball court?
The USA Pickleball Rule Book states that “a total playing surface 30’X60’ is the minimum size that is recommended. A total size of 34’X64’ feet is preferred.” The actual playing lines measure 20’ x 44’. We recommend a north-south court orientation so you don’t have sun glare when playing!
What kind of base is required for a pickleball court?
Asphalt or Concrete both provide an acceptable base for pickleball courts. We always recommend a coat of our Plush® Acrylic Resurfacer first before the paint…2 coats if the surface is in rough shape. IF it’s new concrete it must cure for 28 days and then be primed – we have a product called PT Primer X.
What is the pickleball court resurfacing process and is it difficult?
It is not difficult if you follow the 4 steps: Prep (clean), Patch, Paint, Play!
Pickleball court resurfacing is the process of applying the coating system, to restore the look and textured play characteristics of the court. This normally entails surface cleaning, crack & surface repairs, filling low areas to reduce puddles, application of base and color coatings, and striping the playing lines.
What kind of coating should be used to surface, or paint, pickleball courts?
100% acrylic coatings are recommended for surfacing pickleball, and athletic courts – of course we recommend our Plush® line as it is time tested and ready to use! When properly applied, our Plush®acrylic coatings are breathable and allow some vapor transmission, which is especially important on outdoor courts. Our Plush® Pickleball paint is 100% acrylic and designed for high impact. The filler we use creates the right amount of skid resistance for non-slip footing, true pickleball bounce, and minimal abrasion and wear on pickleballs.
How can I fix the cracks on my pickleball court?
There are a variety of crack repair options in the sport surfacing industry:
Very small “hairline” cracks 1/8” or less can be filled and hidden with the Plush® Acrylic Resurfacer. For larger cracks and small depressions (ie’ ‘bird baths’) we recommend using our Plush® Patch Binder Kit.
What kind of nets are used on pickleball courts?
There are generally two common net styles and a variety of durability options. One style of net sits on the court surface and the second style leaves a gap between the bottom of the net and the court surface. If you don’t have permanent net posts installed, there are a variety of portable net systems available in the market. You can search for ‘portable pickleball net’ on google or Amazon and you will see the best rated.
